A Acquia Case Study
The City of Boston wanted to reimagine Boston.gov as a modern digital front door for residents, but its 10-year-old website ran on an outdated content management system that couldn’t meet current needs. The city also needed a responsive, accessible experience that met AA WCAG guidelines, and it turned to Acquia, along with digital partners, to help deliver the new site.
Acquia helped the City of Boston build the new Boston.gov using Drupal and an iterative, open-source approach. The redesign launched in 11 months, under budget, migrated more than 20,000 pages and one million words, and delivered fully responsive design with AA WCAG accessibility compliance and a 9–10th grade reading level. The launch also drew strong public engagement, with 537 of 611 emails (88%) offering actionable improvement ideas.
