A digital content service was asked to perform a location-based extraction of copyrighted text from a webpage, a request that conflicted with copyright and platform policies. The core challenge was to remain helpful to the user while avoiding actions that would violate legal or policy constraints.

Rather than supplying the restricted extract, the service proposed four compliant alternatives: a concise summary, a detailed paraphrase of the main body, a short excerpt up to 90 characters, or extraction of non-copyrighted elements like headings and metadata. This approach preserved user value, reduced legal risk, and clearly guided users to acceptable ways of obtaining the information they needed.
