A Acoustic Technology, Inc. Case Study
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey faced the challenge of protecting workers and planners during the multi-year reconstruction of the World Trade Center complex, which includes multiple skyscrapers, a transportation hub, retail space and a memorial. In September 2008 Acoustic Technology, Inc. was awarded the contract to provide an emergency mass-notification solution — an outdoor audible alert and intelligible voice-command system — to ensure immediate evacuation and relocation instructions across the dynamic construction site.
Acoustic Technology, Inc. designed and began installing a perimeter-based mass notification system using its proprietary acoustic modeling to ensure site-wide audibility and voice intelligibility while minimizing disruption to the surrounding community. The solution includes a portable control station with backup, wireless RF communications, system supervision, a 24-hour rechargeable battery backup, three high-power 1600 W speaker stations and six 400 W outdoor speaker units; the system meets applicable codes, is operated by Port Authority police, improves rapid notification and site safety, and can be expanded to integrate text and desktop alerts.
