Indian Point Energy Center - Customer Case Study

Indian Point Energy Center, operated by Entergy, needed a reliable emergency warning system to protect populations across its 10‑mile Emergency Planning Zone and meet regulatory safety requirements. Acoustic Technology, Inc. (ATI Systems) was chosen to deliver a complete mass‑notification/emergency warning solution, including outdoor high‑power speakers and voice messaging to ensure audible alerts and intelligible instructions across the surrounding communities.

Acoustic Technology, Inc. implemented a CAP‑compliant, redundant system featuring 11 control stations, a simulcast RF network with four towers (microwave and T1 backups), redundant wireless/IP communications, and 172 high‑power speaker stations (3,200 W continuous output) across four New York counties. FEMA approved the installation in August 2008; the system covers the full 10‑mile EPZ, provides live and pre‑recorded voice alerts, cross‑county control for resiliency, and sustains operation for more than 24 hours on backup power, making it one of the largest and most robust mass‑notification deployments in the world.
