Institute of Educational Science digitizes 12,200 handwritten forms with Acodis

The Institute of Educational Science faced the challenge of digitizing and extracting data from 12,200 handwritten statistical survey forms dating from 1935 to 1969, which were critical for historical research but only existed in physical format. They engaged Acodis to implement an Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) solution using Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR) to automate this process.

Acodis developed a customized solution that used ICR to accurately extract the handwritten data from multiple form layouts. They also provided a simple web editor for efficient data validation and export. This approach saved the institute countless hours of manual labor and successfully digitized the entire collection, making the valuable historical data readily available for future research and enabling new insights.
