Data Extraction and Conservation of Youth Welfare Records With Intelligent Document Processing

Zurich City Archive needed a faster way to search and manage its youth welfare case files from 1920 to 1980. The archive relied on about 33,000 physical index cards, making retrieval slow and labor-intensive, so it turned to Acodis for OCR and data extraction to digitize the records and capture key metadata.

Acodis scanned the index cards, converted them to PDFs, applied intelligent document processing to extract the required data, and then checked, normalized, and validated the results for integration into the archive database. As a result, Zurich City Archive significantly reduced manual work, improved search efficiency, and can now locate case files, names, places, and dates in seconds.
