A ACL Case Study
Baptist Health System (BHS) is one of Alabama’s largest not-for-profit health systems, operating four hospitals and employing about 4,300 people. Facing strict government regulations around physician payments, BHS’s internal audit team relied on lengthy, 6–8 week on-site audits that only identified issues 12–18 months after they occurred and consumed hundreds of staff hours.
BHS implemented ACL Analytics Exchange for continuous auditing, scheduling overnight data extracts and automated monthly analyses that join physician contracts with accounts payable and run a suite of monitoring reports. The change produced timely detection of anomalies (e.g., payments to physicians with expired contracts), drastically reduced on-site audit time (from roughly 36 weeks to 48 days annually), improved fraud deterrence and internal controls coverage, and elevated the audit group’s reputation as a business partner.
