Walmart worked with Ace Metrix as it faced a challenge after the Great Recession recovery changed the market. The retailer had seen strong performance with ads centered on “The Savers,” but needed to keep the consumers it had gained during the recession.
Ace Metrix evaluated Walmart’s “Rollback” ads, which brought back the yellow smiley face and used a red arrow pointing downward. Ace Scores showed the ads were appealing but less well received than the earlier Saver-focused ads, and Walmart’s Q1 net sales were up while comparable same-store sales were slightly down.
