Pocket Change worked with Ace Metrix to evaluate a Levi’s television spot that aired in September 2009. The gritty, edgy creative was meant to appeal to a younger demographic, but its “home movie” style, scratchy male voice-over, and noisy background made it difficult for viewers to follow.
Ace Metrix found that the first version of the spot scored more than 200 points below norm. After the ad reappeared six weeks later with a new soundtrack, the revised version scored more than 60 points higher than the original, showing that a simple, inexpensive change improved viewer response even though the spot remained below industry norms.
