Merck Simplifies and Streamlines Method Development with In Silico Modeling

Researchers at Merck faced the significant challenge of developing complex analytical and purification methods for large-molecule biopharmaceuticals, a process that was traditionally laborious and required an extensive number of experiments. To simplify and accelerate their method development, they turned to ACD/Labs, utilizing the LC Simulator module from the ACD/Method Selection Suite.

The solution from ACD/Labs involved a dual strategy combining automated column screening with in silico modeling. This approach allowed Merck to dramatically reduce the number of required experiments, cut development time from days to just half a day, and achieve minimal manual intervention. The results showed excellent accuracy, with simulated and experimental retention times differing by less than 0.5%, enabling more efficient analysis and purification of nucleotides, peptides, and proteins.
