BNSF Railway faced the urgent challenge of protecting trains and clearing tracks when an F-3 tornado approached Norman, Oklahoma. AccuWeather For Business, through its AccuWeather Enterprise Solutions team and SkyGuard® service, provided targeted, site-specific tornado warnings to help BNSF prepare.

AccuWeather For Business issued a warning at 3:29 PM predicting the tornado would cross BNSF’s track between 3:50–4:30 PM; the tornado crossed at 4:10 PM, giving BNSF 41 minutes of advanced notice. That lead time—30 minutes longer than the National Weather Service warning at 3:59 PM—allowed BNSF to ensure no train was in the storm’s path, demonstrably reducing operational risk and protecting people and equipment.
