NHS South Yorkshire ICB shares 5,452 BP readings with Accurx

The NHS South Yorkshire ICB faced a challenge where its community pharmacies and GP practices in Rotherham had no efficient or consistent system for sharing patient blood pressure readings. Methods like phone, fax, or letters were slow, unreliable, and created unnecessary administrative work, hindering the hypertension case-finding service commissioned by the NHS.

Working with vendor Accurx and its Accumail product, the ICB piloted a solution that integrated directly into clinical systems. This allowed pharmacy staff to quickly send readings and GP staff to receive and action them from a shared inbox. The implementation by Accurx was highly successful, saving an estimated five minutes per reading shared and resulting in 5,452 blood pressure readings being transmitted efficiently over a year, greatly improving workflows and patient care for 62 community pharmacies and their local GP practices.
