Preview of the World’s Largest Oilfield Services Provider Case Study

Global oilfield services leader minimizes risks and costs by proactively maintaining inventory of electronic components

A major oilfield services provider faced significant challenges related to electronic component obsolescence in its custom-built, harsh-environment computers. The company needed to proactively manage its inventory of over 25,000 parts to mitigate risks, avoid delays in product change notices (PCNs), ensure a supply of spares, and maintain compliance with regulations like REACH and RoHS. To address this, they turned to the vendor Accuris.

Using Accuris’s PCN Intelligence and BOM Intelligence solutions, the company gained real-time access to critical component data. This enabled them to proactively monitor for end-of-life (EOL) notices, make informed last-time buys, and advise design engineers on part alternatives. Accuris’s tools helped the company achieve cost savings, eliminate previous delays to EOL and PCN notices, and ensure ongoing regulatory compliance. The results were substantial, including receiving EOL notifications for over 800 components and executing last-time buys for 500 of them, thereby minimizing operational risk.
