The facilities management team at the University of Texas at Austin is responsible for managing capital projects up to $2 million and 16 million gross square feet at the university’s main campus and satellite research campus. Previously, they used a homegrown system to accumulate costs for work and charge them to appropriate departments but had no work management system to hold people accountable for the amount of time they charged for a job. Now that they manage all information on one platform, they achieve substantial time savings with one source for generating information needed to plan and manage maintenance activities. The FAMIS system also provides greater visibility for projects and workloads to help them improve campus-wide accountability and control labor and materials costs. The integrated system allows UT to develop automated workflows and establish clearly defined processes.
