A Accruent Case Study
James Madison University (JMU) is a public university in Virginia with over 20,000 students, 175 campus buildings and more than six million square feet of facilities. Facing a statewide 2005 mandate for facility condition assessments and the need for a consistent, accountable planning process tied to institutional priorities, JMU sought tools and workflows to plan resources, improve decision-making and keep facility data current.
JMU implemented VFA Facility in 2005 and added VFA Auditor in 2008, allowing template-driven, integrated field surveys and real-time data feeds into their capital planning system. The result: inspectors now assess four times more square footage per year with the same staff, office data-entry time fell from two weeks to two days, assessment cycles moved from five years to three, and the university gained faster budgeting, better forecasting and improved ability to manage deferred maintenance and lower its Facility Condition Index.
