How Digital Engineering Drawings helped Urban Utilities Improve Safety

Urban Utilities, the water and sewerage service provider for more than 1.5 million people across South East Queensland, faced a major asset-data challenge: decades of engineering drawings and documents scattered across on‑premise systems, network drives and hard drives made governance, compliance and field access difficult. To support its digital transformation and improve accuracy and safety, the utility needed a single, cloud‑based source of truth for its extensive, aging infrastructure records.

Working with Accruent to implement RedEye, Urban Utilities migrated roughly 900,000 documents into a centralized drawing-management system, cutting duplicates by about 23% and standardizing metadata and CAD tags. The result is faster, more secure access to the latest engineering data for field crews and contractors, improved searchability and automation, stronger compliance and safer onsite work — and a platform the organization is now expanding across the business.
