AbbVie, a global research-driven biopharmaceutical company formed after its separation from Abbott, faced a major IT challenge: deciding how to manage 130 corporate engineering applications while standardizing processes across 14 manufacturing sites. AbbVie cloned Abbott’s Meridian instance to create a standardized, centralized solution integrated with IBM Maximo, single sign-on, and automated e-signature approvals; about 625 employees now use Meridian to manage 300,000+ CAD drawings and related files. The rollout improved maintenance access and cross-department collaboration, ensured FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliance, reduced engineering IT systems by nearly 50%, lowered infrastructure costs, and streamlined audits and change processes.
