Case Study: Minnesota State University Moorhead achieves $1M annual savings and 13% energy reduction with Accruent EMS

A Accruent EMS Case Study

Preview of the Minnesota State University Moorhead Case Study

How the university saves $1 million in annual energy costs with the EMS and Events2HVAC integration by automating HVAC needs based on scheduled events

Minnesota State University Moorhead faced large energy and labor waste: with average room occupancy at just 12% but lights and HVAC running 13 hours a day, and HVAC changes taking about 15 clicks each across 13,000 annual reservations. To address this, the university worked with Accruent EMS (using EMS Software scheduling) alongside Streamside Solutions’ Events2HVAC to better align building systems with actual room use.

Accruent EMS enabled integration of scheduling data with campus HVAC and controls via the Events2HVAC solution, automating equipment based on reservations. The deployment cut electricity use by 13% (despite adding 43,000 sq ft), saved an estimated $1M annually (about $0.45–$0.55 per sq ft), and recovered 10–15 labor hours per week managing building systems.
