Primark, the global retailer with around 320 stores and 68,000 employees, faced a sudden payments challenge when RBS withdrew its host-to-host service Access Direct and its replacement, Bankline Direct, proved incompatible with Primark’s ERP encryption. To bridge the gap and avoid disruption to supplier payments and payroll, Primark worked with RBS to shortlist third‑party providers and selected AccessPay — a cloud‑based, bank- and file‑agnostic interface that integrates with Primark’s back‑office systems and connects to Bankline Direct.

AccessPay built and deployed the secure interface that enabled two‑way communications between Primark’s systems and Bankline Direct within the three‑month window, preserving processing of supplier payments and payroll worth billions and delivering the cutover ahead of schedule. The solution, delivered by AccessPay in partnership with Primark and the bank, supported Bacs, Faster Payments, CHAPS, SEPA and SWIFT flows, removed compatibility barriers, and has become the foundation for Primark’s more future‑proof payments infrastructure.
