Imperial College London Set to Save Up to £50,000 a Year With International Host-to-host Connection

Imperial College London, a world-leading STEM university paying suppliers in around 150 countries, faced an outdated, manual payments process that was error-prone, time-consuming and costly. They appointed AccessPay to replace their retiring on‑premise platform with a cloud-based Bacs solution and to explore host-to-host banking connectivity to streamline international payments.

AccessPay delivered a phased solution — migrating Bacs to its cloud portal, implementing an RBS host-to-host (Bankline Direct) connection for international payments, and extending the project to a Citizens Bank host-to-host link for US domestic payments. The changes eliminated manual data entry, reduced fraud risk through encryption and multi-factor authentication, improved visibility and segregation of duties, and are expected to save the university up to £50,000 a year on international fees with further savings running into the hundreds of thousands once the US connection is live.
