North Tyneside Council, a local authority serving more than 200,000 residents, needed to replace its legacy BACS payment provider before contract expiry while also modernising its payment operations. The council required a secure, compliant solution with strong communication, support for ISO 27001, GDPR, HSM certificates, Faster Payments, and BACS-approved software. AccessPay was chosen to meet these needs, including for BACS and direct debit processing.
AccessPay implemented the new payments platform in just three days, with the council preparing key certificates, SFTP setup, user roles, and file formats in advance. The result was a rapid, smooth transition with better automation, improved control, and lower costs. North Tyneside Council reported reducing the cost of cash payments from 50p to 0.02p for direct debits, freeing up resources for essential public services.
