Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC), the largest provider of inpatient and outpatient services in New Jersey, needed a better way to manage patient records while achieving HIPAA compliance. Its existing document management process limited growth and lacked the technology needed to protect confidential health information, so it turned to Access for a more secure and scalable records management solution.
Access implemented off-site records storage and management services, including barcode tracking, retrieval and re-filing, vital records maintenance, document destruction, custom reporting, and Scan-on-Demand for rapid electronic access to active files. The vendor physically relocated more than 1.2 million patient records and migrated database records for over 75 departments, helping HUMC streamline records management, reduce staff time spent locating files, and improve access to information for better patient care while supporting HIPAA compliance.
