Research University, one of Australia’s largest institutions with more than 75,000 staff and students, needed a way to protect high-value medical and technology research data across a complex hybrid environment. The university already had EDR and a SIEM, but alert overload made it difficult to detect intrusions quickly and accurately, so it turned to Acalvio Technologies and its ShadowPlex deception platform for a low-noise, agentless breach-detection solution.

Acalvio Technologies deployed ShadowPlex across AWS, vSphere/NSX, and on-premises networks, including DMZ and internal VLANs, with integrations to Splunk, CrowdStrike, and MAC whitelisting. The solution quickly surfaced Internet probing for threat intelligence and blacklisting, then expanded to ransomware and Active Directory defense, cloud file-share baits, and richer attacker profiling. The university completed the RFP-to-deployment process in under four months and improved operational efficiency without requiring specialized staff training.
