Swedish local authority cuts school laptop theft by 85% with Absolute

Kristinehamns Kommun, the local authority for Kristinehamn, Sweden, provides ICT services to local schools and issued laptops to senior students and teachers to support learning. After deploying about 1,500 devices over two years, roughly 52 went missing—creating a potential hardware loss of about $72,000—and insurance often didn’t cover theft that occurred off campus.

The authority rolled out Absolute across its 2,200‑laptop fleet (with more than half already protected), using its tracking, recovery and remote freeze/message features and informing users about the protection. Theft fell by more than 85%; only about six devices were lost or stolen after deployment and all were recovered, enabling faster returns, preserving IT budgets and ensuring reliable access for teaching and learning.
