Goodwill Goes a Long Way to Enrich Student Learning

Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana, a nonprofit supporting tuition-free charter schools for about 3,300 students across 11 sites, provided laptops to disadvantaged students but had no IT management or device-tracking processes. The organization faced frequent device loss and theft, lacked visibility when devices left school grounds, and worried students could bypass school filters and networks to access unauthorized content—creating both security and cost challenges.

Goodwill deployed Absolute DDS to geofence each school, trigger alerts when devices leave approved zones, remotely freeze lost units, and detect attempts to use personal hotspots or unapproved networks. The solution also provides transparent inventory history and action logs. As a result, device loss and theft have been greatly reduced, network compliance and student monitoring improved, and Goodwill plans to expand Absolute DDS visibility to other divisions for broader device security and inventory management.
