Cornwall College tightens laptop security belt and implements Absolute to safeguard against theft

Cornwall College, one of the UK’s largest further education providers with seven campuses and around 40,000 students, faced recurring laptop thefts and growing security risks as staff moved between sites and worked remotely. Previous anti-theft measures like UV etching were slow, ineffective and offered no way to proactively find missing devices, leaving the college exposed to data loss and liability from human error.

The college deployed Absolute DDS with Persistence technology embedded on devices to maintain a trusted connection for tracking, remote data cleanup and recovery. Since implementation Absolute has helped recover stolen machines (one retrieved within weeks with an arrest), enabled remote deletion of sensitive data, made locating mislaid laptops straightforward, and given IT staff greater peace of mind with quick, easy installation and broad device coverage.
