CASAColumbia protects valuable research data and tracks expensive assets with Absolute

The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASAColumbia) is a nonprofit research organization that studies addiction and conducts field surveys across public settings. Because researchers frequently work offsite with sensitive participant data and use costly laptops, CASAColumbia needed to meet HIPAA requirements, prove data destruction on decommissioned devices, and quickly locate or secure missing machines.

CASAColumbia deployed Absolute’s persistent endpoint solution to track devices, set geofences, receive automated alerts, and remotely freeze or wipe at-risk laptops. The result: faster asset tracking and fewer IT hours, confirmed data protection and compliance, a recovered laptop left in a café, and ongoing “peace of mind” from automated, firmware‑based protection and responsive support.
