Baltimore City Public School System delivers secure technology to the classroom

Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS), serving 200 schools with 8,000 teachers and 85,000 students, aimed to roll out technology to every classroom but faced a major obstacle: high citywide crime and the inevitable risk of laptop theft and exposure of sensitive data. The district needed a scalable security strategy to track and secure thousands of devices across a wide and often mobile user base.

BCPSS implemented Absolute’s Persistence technology on every mobile device, giving IT a constant connection for location and asset reporting and the ability to issue remote security actions (freeze, data delete) and engage Absolute Investigations with law enforcement when devices go missing. The solution became part of the district’s core IT infrastructure, reducing theft risk, protecting sensitive school data, and improving device recovery while providing the IT team with peace of mind.
