Absolute locates stolen PCs for General Services Administration, breaks up theft ring

The General Services Administration (GSA), which manages resources and services for federal agencies, faced a critical security risk when multiple government laptops were stolen from its Atlanta office. With sensitive federal data on mobile devices and employees frequently traveling between sites, the agency needed a reliable way to track and protect portable computers.

After installing Absolute on all portables, Absolute’s Monitoring Center located the stolen PCs when the thieves went online and its Investigations team worked with the Federal Protective Service and FBI to obtain warrants and make arrests. Several devices were recovered intact (including eight additional stolen units), sensitive data was preserved, and GSA gained ongoing device visibility and a dramatic reduction in theft.
