SGS Engineering launches Magento 2 with Absolute Design and takes over 13k orders

SGS Engineering, a UK-based manufacturer and supplier of tools and equipment, faced the challenge of migrating its outdated Magento 1 ecommerce platform to the more secure and PCI-compliant Magento 2 Open Source. Their complex installation included numerous bespoke features and a critical, yet problematic, integration with their Sage 200 ERP system that relied on error-prone CSV file exchanges. To ensure business continuity and reduce security exposure, they enlisted Absolute Design to handle the replatforming.

Absolute Design executed a meticulous migration, porting data and custom features while initially replicating the legacy Sage integration for a stable launch. They then developed a more robust API integration to automate the syncing of customers, orders, and stock data, which drastically reduced manual intervention. Post-launch, the new site successfully processed over 13,000 orders in its first six weeks. Absolute Design also assisted the client in moving to a dedicated Magento hosting provider to resolve performance issues, ultimately delivering a secure, supported platform that allowed SGS Engineering to move its business forward.
