Riverside University Health System Medical Center completes COVID-19 prep in 2.5 weeks with ABS Consulting

Riverside University Health System Medical Center, a principal healthcare provider for Riverside County, California, faced the challenge of rapidly preparing its facilities for the COVID-19 pandemic. The center needed structural engineering support to install temporary systems for negative pressure patient rooms and a mobile lab, all while ensuring designs would pass state scrutiny. ABS Consulting quickly delivered a solution, designing steel equipment platforms and ducting mounted to the hospital's exterior to achieve negative pressure in nearly 100 rooms. The design was fully coordinated and approved by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development within just two and a half weeks, allowing construction to proceed and ensuring the temporary structures could remain in place after the emergency.
