Case Study: WaterAid achieves AI-driven email protection and significant time savings with Abnormal AI

A Abnormal AI Case Study

Preview of the WaterAid Case Study

WaterAid Uses Human Behaviour AI to Protect Its Human Aid Mission

WaterAid, the global charity delivering water, sanitation and hygiene solutions in 37 countries, was struggling with advanced, AI-driven spear-phishing and vendor email compromise that bypassed its secure email gateway and Microsoft 365 defenses—eroding staff trust and creating costly remediation work. To stop these targeted attacks and reduce false positives, WaterAid engaged Abnormal AI and deployed its Inbound Email Security, Account Takeover Protection, AI Security Mailbox and Email Productivity capabilities.

Abnormal AI’s human-behaviour AI and automation triaged, remediated and gave feedback on malicious emails, enabling WaterAid to retire its SEG and free security analysts for higher-value work. In the first 30 days Abnormal AI found that 9% of stopped attacks were BEC, saved 332 employee hours on graymail, and now protects mission data across 27 countries, including blocking compromised vendor accounts and reducing monetary and operational impact.
