Case Study: Coats achieves robust supply-chain email security and blocks advanced threats with Abnormal AI

A Abnormal AI Case Study

Preview of the Coats Case Study

Coats Optimizes Its Extensive Supply Chain Security, Protecting Customers and Vendors

Coats, the 250‑year‑old global leader in industrial thread manufacturing with more than 17,000 employees, was seeing a year‑over‑year rise in advanced email attacks that bypassed its Microsoft Defender for Office 365 controls, while legitimate messages were being quarantined and security teams were spending excessive time triaging inboxes. To add behavioral detection for never‑seen‑before threats, Coats engaged Abnormal AI and its Integrated Cloud Email Security (ICES) platform.

Abnormal AI integrated ICES (including VendorBase, Abuse Mailbox and account‑takeover protection) with Coats’ Microsoft 365 environment to evaluate behavior and vendor legitimacy; it uncovered 766 attacks that had reached inboxes in the prior month and, in the first nine months, prevented 7,790 attacks across 11,000 mailboxes. The Abnormal AI deployment reduced unsafe user engagements by 97%, flagged 30 high‑risk vendors among 7,099, produced zero compromised accounts in the past year, and saved the SOC roughly 30 hours per week while cutting remediation time from up to 90 minutes to about two minutes.
