Scranton Levels Up Parking Through Public-Private Partnership

The City of Scranton, which operates six parking garages and on-street parking totaling more than 6,000 spaces, needed a major improvement to its parking operations. Years of neglect had hurt curb appeal, customer satisfaction, safety, and usage due to poor lighting and outdated equipment, while limited revenue made it difficult to fund repairs and maintenance. ABM Industries was brought in to help address these challenges through parking services and infrastructure upgrades.

ABM Industries partnered with the City through a new Public-Private Partnership to upgrade the parking system, financing and installing new equipment, improving lighting, and restoring the garages. ABM repainted and power washed the facilities, implemented an ongoing maintenance program, upgraded four garages to LED lighting, and added new automated revenue control equipment across all six garages. The result was a cleaner, safer, more functional parking environment with improved operations and a stronger foundation for future revenue growth.
