A ABM Industries Case Study
The City of Harrisonburg, VA needed to improve comfort, safety, and energy efficiency in two critical public buildings—the Public Safety Building and the Cecil F. Gilkerson Community Activities Center—while avoiding any added financial burden on taxpayers. ABM Industries helped the city address aging HVAC systems and unreliable conditions through an energy performance contracting approach.
ABM Industries implemented extensive HVAC upgrades, a building automation system, energy-efficient lighting, and window films, with the project funded through projected operations and maintenance savings. The results included a 50% reduction in energy consumption and more than $2.5 million in guaranteed energy and operating cost savings over 15 years, along with improved occupant comfort and a reduced carbon footprint.
