Hospify is a UK & EU‑compliant secure mobile chat app for healthcare professionals and patients that must meet NHS, UK Data Protection and GDPR standards. During proof‑of‑concept testing Hospify found its polling delivery model could not meet the speed, scale and EU‑only storage requirements of a healthcare messaging service, and needed a realtime Pub/Sub solution with European data residency and strict deletion policies. To meet those needs Hospify chose Ably, using Ably’s Pub/Sub messaging and EU‑only storage enterprise offering alongside token‑based authentication and TLS.

Ably delivered a realtime platform with guaranteed delivery and ordering, message history and connection state retention so messages are queued and replayed in the correct order when clinicians reconnect. Using Ably’s EU‑only storage ensured messages could be kept and deleted in a regulatory‑compliant way (messages deleted within 72 hours), eliminated Hospify’s need to build and maintain custom delivery infrastructure, reduced engineering and ops cost, prevented lost or muddled messages, and let Hospify focus on growing its user base.
