17LIVE, Asia’s largest interactive live streaming platform, needed to deliver realtime chat, reactions, replies, virtual gifting, and instant updates to more than 550K monthly active users across 133 countries. As traffic spikes and concurrent usage grew, the company struggled to maintain low latency, strong performance, and compliance with regional data requirements, while also needing a solution that could integrate smoothly with its existing infrastructure.

To solve this, 17LIVE partnered with Ably to power its realtime chat experience using Ably’s scalable messaging platform, SDKs, and dedicated regional cluster, with SAML support for existing SSO. Ably enabled 1:1 and 1:many chat rooms, reactions, replies, virtual gifting, and automatic scaling for peak events, helping 17LIVE handle about 9 billion messages a month without incidents. The results included a 25% increase in interaction, 20% better retention, 30% higher satisfaction, and a 15% increase in session time.
