The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), a nonprofit certifying body for professional counselors, needed to replace a decades‑old paper application system with an online, transparent, self‑service process that enforced rules and ethics, sped up reviews, and improved staff efficiency while ensuring fairness.
NBCC launched ProCounselor.nbcc.org using Abila netFORUM Enterprise (with the Agilutions Credentialing Engine), which converted months‑long workflows into transactions that can take as little as 14 minutes. In less than a year over 4,000 applicants applied and paid online, applications rose 19% in six months, staff time was reduced (an estimated 1,280 hours saved in the first six months and a 79% drop in monthly billing time), more than 10,000 counselors renewed online reporting ~300,000 hours of continuing education, and roughly 20,000 payments were processed through the system.
