World-leading food and beverage brand automates invoice processing with ABBYY data capture

PepsiCo’s Imaging Technology team, which builds document and content management solutions for the company’s global entities, tackled a manual, error-prone accounts payable process for its four largest European business units (two in France, one in Belgium and one in the Netherlands). The POWER project needed to replace slow keyboard entry into SAP with an automated solution capable of handling multiple languages, currencies, VAT details, purchase orders and line‑item data.

Working with ABBYY partner Criteria First, PepsiCo implemented ABBYY FlexiCapture integrated with its Image Vision workflow and SAP backend (scanning via ABBYY Scan Station, verification stations, then XML export to SAP). The system—hosted centrally and accessed remotely—cut processing time, greatly reduced errors and required only minimal verification; in the first three months it processed ~2,000 batches (21,000 documents, ~40,000 pages) across five languages and has proven scalable with near‑zero support issues, paving the way for a global rollout.
