Habitat for Humanity of Orange County, a nonprofit that has helped hundreds of local families build and renovate homes since 1988, faced a major administrative bottleneck: every project generated stacks of paper and uneditable PDFs—proposals, permits, environmental reports and applications—that required slow, manual re-keying before they could be edited or used. This paperwork drain slowed approvals and diverted staff time away from mission-critical volunteer coordination and construction.
The organization implemented ABBYY FineReader Professional to automatically convert paper and PDF documents into editable Microsoft Word and Excel files. FineReader’s high accuracy, layout preservation and preview/rearrange features for Excel dramatically reduced manual data entry, sped up document processing and freed staff to focus on building homes and serving more families.
