Wildlife Conservations Division Streamlines Data WorkFlow and Reallocates valuable Resources

The Alaska Division of Wildlife Conservation (Alaska Fish & Game) needed faster, more reliable ways to collect and report hunting, trapping and sealing data used to manage healthy wildlife populations. Incoming information arrived on many different forms and required extensive manual coding, keying, QA and hand-sorting—consuming thousands of staff hours and delaying vital reports and analyses.

The division deployed ABBYY FlexiCapture (with high-speed imaging) and reworked its workflow around imaging → data capture → QA → records release, enabling automated data extraction, geocoding and QA without hand sorting. The change eliminated the need for seasonal temporary staff (about 1,600 hours/year), let core staff finish data entry nearly four months early while processing years of historic records, and freed resources to support other projects and cut investigative data retrieval from months to minutes.
