While ABBYY OCR Guards Personal Data, MFU Users Can Sleep Calmly

A leading South Korean multifunction printer (MFP) manufacturer, a market leader since the 1960s, faced a growing need to prevent data leakage and comply with Korea’s Personal Information Protection Law—especially for sensitive Korean-language ID data commonly found on scanned, faxed or printed documents. Their initial bundled solution used OCR that lacked accuracy and stability for Korean, undermining reliable detection of confidential fields and leaving customers at risk.

To fix this, the vendor integrated ABBYY FineReader Engine via partner ReTIA into its MFPs, using automatic document classification and high‑accuracy Korean OCR to detect SSNs, names, addresses, card/account numbers, medical records and other sensitive fields, then hide data or alert administrators. The result was legal compliance, stable 24/7 operation and markedly improved recognition accuracy; the solution is now deployed across multiple MFP series and used by 80+ large enterprises and financial institutions, helping the manufacturer win bids and expand regionally.
