Volkswagen Corporation Tests its Infotainment Systems by Using ABBYY FineReader Engine

Volkswagen Corporation’s Interactive Electronics Test Facility is responsible for ensuring the usability and reliability of infotainment systems across the company’s diverse brands and markets. Test engineers faced a complex challenge: frequent software updates (every two weeks), many model and display variants, multilingual requirements and graphics-rich screens that caused high error rates with their previous OCR tools, making automated verification slow and unreliable.

Volkswagen evaluated and adopted the ABBYY FineReader Engine OCR SDK, integrating it into their optical inspection workflow; after a six-week rollout it could process up to 600,000 characters per day and was deployed to 60 test facilities. The solution’s high recognition accuracy (supporting up to 198 languages, including Arabic), robust API and out-of-the-box performance shortened test times, increased testing accuracy and quality assurance, and helped improve customer satisfaction while reducing costs.
