Texthelp™ and ABBYY Increase the Access to Information for People with Dyslexia or Literacy Difficulties

Texthelp Ltd., an Antrim, Ireland developer of Read&Write GOLD literacy support software, provides reading and writing assistance for students with dyslexia and other literacy difficulties. They needed a highly accurate OCR solution for Windows and Mac to convert text embedded in images, PDFs and Flash-based web content into readable text so their Screenshot Reader and other tools could reliably read inaccessible materials aloud without extensive redevelopment.

Texthelp integrated the ABBYY FineReader Engine SDK for image recognition, PDF conversion and zonal OCR, enabling automatic extraction of text from images and locked documents. The result was improved recognition accuracy, straightforward integration with existing software and better access to information for students with special needs, enhancing Read&Write GOLD’s research, proofreading and study capabilities.
