Prodco Uses ABBYY FormReader to Get Pensioners on the Move

Prodco, a Jersey-based new media and TV production agency, was contracted to process travel-pass applications for over 15,000 pensioners. The project demanded extracting mixed data types—machine print, handwritten fields, tick boxes, dates and passport photos—under tight deadlines and with limited staff, making manual entry impractical and costly.

Prodco integrated ABBYY FormReader (OCR/ICR) with Fujitsu scanning and a PHP/MySQL workflow to automate capture, flag uncertain characters for quick operator verification, and export data to a verifiable archive. Within three months the first batch was completed, one person could process the workload, hundreds of man-hours were saved, and the solution proved highly cost-effective (around five times cheaper than alternatives), enabling future expansion of Prodco’s scanning services.
