PepsiCo Automates Their Invoice Processing with ABBYY FlexiCapture®

PepsiCo Imaging Technology, the internal team that builds document imaging solutions for PepsiCo, faced a time-consuming, error-prone accounts payable process: four major Western European entities were manually keying invoices and credit memos into SAP across multiple languages, currencies and VAT rules. The manual workflow created high labor costs, slow processing and frequent data entry errors that needed a scalable, multi-language automated solution.

Imaging Technology partnered with Criteria First to deploy ABBYY FlexiCapture integrated with PepsiCo’s Image Vision and SAP, hosted centrally and accessed via web-enabled scanning stations. The automated workflow—capture, verification and XML export to SAP—cut processing time and errors, required only light manual verification, and handled heavy volume (about 2,000 batches, 21,000 documents and nearly 40,000 pages in the first three months). The solution has scaled well, delivered near-zero support issues, and is being extended toward a global AP rollout.
