OIP Seeks to Become the Most Modern Public Institute in Peru with ABBYY Recognition Server

The Peruvian Penitentiary Infrastructure Office (OIP) is the government body responsible for planning and maintaining prison infrastructure and aimed to become the most modern public infrastructure entity in Latin America. With nationwide digitalization of administrative processes, OIP needed to organize and make accessible a huge bilingual (Spanish/English) document archive and streamline processing of invoices and reports; they already had high-volume scanners but lacked an automated OCR solution that could integrate with their systems.

OIP deployed ABBYY Recognition Server (via partner Arnebuk Perú) to automate Hot Folder workflows from MFPs, produce searchable PDFs, export TIFFs for archiving, and feed indexed documents into their ECM. The solution supports multiple languages, delivers high recognition accuracy so verification is largely unnecessary, and enabled full archive digitization, fast document search and BPM integration—processing around 200,000 OCR images per year and dramatically accelerating document access and management.
