Office of Agricultural Economics of Thailand Processes Vital Statistical Data with ABBYY FormReader™

The Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE) of Thailand, the government agency responsible for collecting and analyzing national agricultural statistics, was overwhelmed by seasonal survey volumes—up to about 1.5 million pages per month and more than 2,000 multi‑page forms per day at each of six divisions. Relying on manual key‑in made processing slow, error‑prone and labor‑intensive, delaying access to the timely, accurate data needed for forecasting and policy decisions.

SDB Thailand deployed ABBYY FormReader 6.5 Enterprise with FormDesigner, VRS image enhancement and recommended scanners so each division could scan forms locally, centralize recognition and verification at headquarters, and export indexed CSV files into Oracle. The automated solution greatly reduced manual work, sped data availability, improved accuracy, and enabled OAE executives to make faster, better-informed decisions on production forecasts, pricing and disaster impact assessments.
