Nigeria’s Lagos State Government Creates Electronic Banking System Using ABBYY FormReader™

Lagos State Government faced a growing backlog of millions of hand‑filled income tax forms, relying on outsourced manual data entry that caused typographical errors, long transit times and processing delays. The state set out to create an electronic banking and revenue-management system to provide online access to revenue data, improve tax administration and enable coordinated monitoring across remote tax stations.

NETSPIDER India implemented ABBYY FormReader 6.0 Enterprise to scan and recognize existing handwritten forms, design ICR machine‑readable tax forms and centralize verification and export from 14 stations, integrating payments with the Direct Bank Lodgment System and COBIS. The result: an automated revenue cycle that processes thousands of forms and issues receipts daily, eliminated outsourcing costs and manual entry errors, and enabled real‑time monitoring of tax collection since deployment.
