Kimco Staffing Services, an Irvine-based professional staffing firm with 24 branch offices and about 15,000 applicants a year, was overwhelmed by multi-page paper applications and manual data entry. The company relied on a four-person data-entry team plus support staff to track, file and retain applications for seven years, which slowed candidate matching and drove up labor and storage costs.

Kimco implemented ABBYY FlexiCaptureTM—with implementation support from WiseTrend and Sunset Programming and an in-house online intake—to scan, automatically index and secure applications (the forms contain about 1,000 recognizable fields). The new workflow cut the application-handling staff to two, eliminated heads-down data entry, gave branches direct access to digital records, doubled processing capacity, and saved about $50,000 in the first year (with expected further savings).
